Based on the mysterious and spine-chilling Netflix show, this Archive 81 book cover concept takes inspiration from one of the most iconic items used within the show. This cover was made as part of a class project that imitates the look of a classic VHS tape, with some bloody typography to capture the theme of the show. This project also won a student commendation award from the World Brand Design Society on January 1st 2025.

The Process
To create this cover, I took an old un-opened VHS tape and started destroying it with various tools around my house. Once it was all scratched up, I laid on pieces of torn masking tape to really match the theme of the show. Finally, I scanned the VHS tape on all sides and moved it in to Adobe Photoshop to add in the typography.

Once the cover was complete, I used created mock-ups of each side to really showcase what the book cover would look like if there was an official book based off the show. These turned out exactly as I imagined due to the VHS tape having relatively similar dimensions to a standard sized novel. These mock-ups were also created using Adobe Photoshop.

On September 2nd, 2024, I submitted this book cover concept to the World Brand Design Society for their student awards. On January 1st, 2025, I was honoured to receive a Student Commendation Award — the first official recognition of my design work. This milestone marked a meaningful moment in my creative journey and affirmed that I’m heading in the right direction. I’m excited to carry this momentum forward as I continue to grow in the industry.

This project played a key role in my development as a designer.
